Cambria County Teenagers Killed in Crash

POSTED: 10:50 pm EDT March 22, 2008

Cambria County Coroner Denny Kwiatkowski told Channel 6 News two Blacklick Valley High School students were killed in a crash Saturday afternoon, after the car they were riding in slammed into a tree.

The accident happened just before 3 p.m. on Saturday on Snake Road near Reed Hollow Road in Blacklick Township. Kwiatkowski said 16-year-olds Tiana Marie Rose and Nicholas Maniccia were killed in the wreck.

Rose was driving the car west on Snake Road and lost control on a curve. Rose's car struck an embankment, then crossed back across the roadway, then went airborne and struck a tree, roof-first.

Passenger Brooke Litzinger was ejected from the vehicle through the windshield and landed approximately 30 yards from the car. She remained conscious and called 911. She was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Another passenger -- Jeremy Turous -- was flown to Altoona Regional Medical Center for a broken leg and arm.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor. None of the victims were wearing seatbelts.

Kwiatkowski said he spoke with the Blacklick Valley High School principal, who said grief counselors will be at the school on Tuesday morning, when classes resume from the holiday break.
