BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. -- No one likes to pay more in taxes, but sometimes it can be needed. The last reassessment done in Bedford County was in 1957 and officials said right now there are several people who aren't paying their fair share.Tuesday, letters went out to homes in Bedford Borough and Bedford Township that have already been assessed. Tyler Technologies is sending people a description of their properties to make sure everything is accurate before the tax changes are made. The reason the county is doing it, is to make sure everything is fair across the board. Since it's been so many years since the last reassessment, there are a lot of cases where people with similar property values are paying different amounts. Some residents said they understand why is has to be done but the timing couldn't be worse."The economy is very poor right now," said Bobbie Jo Rose of Bedford. "Families are struggling and we are having difficulties."If you receive a mailer and the information about your property is not correct, contact the reassessment office at 814-624-2696.
