Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry is set to stay in State College he confirmed during Fiesta Bowl media day on campus Friday.
Pry had previously been one of the front-runners to land the head Louisiana-Lafayette head coaching job. Louisiana-Lafayette eventually hired former Arizona State offensive coordinator Billy Napier.
"Brent is my guy," James Franklin said on Friday. "He's one of my best friends, the hard thing for me. I kind of feel split, I want what's best for Brent Pry and his family, but I also want what's best for Penn State."
Long before connecting with Penn State coach James Franklin at Vanderbilt, Pry had coached at Louisiana-Lafayette from 2002 to ’06, helping the Ragin’ Cajuns to a share of their first Sun Belt championship in ’05.
The move would have meant Penn State having to replace a second major coordinator position this offseason with former offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead taking the head coaching gig at Mississippi State. Tight ends coach Ricky Rahne was recently promoted to take over Moorhead's role as OC.
