Penn State kicker Alex Barbir and running back Andre Robinson are set to transfer according to a Lions247 report on Tuesday night. The program has granted him his release.
Barbir, a redshirt freshmn, made appearances in just three games this season, kicking off six times in back-up duty to regular starter Tyler Davis. Two of his six kicks landed out of bounds. At one point Barbir was the No. 11 kicker in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
While Barbir's departure was unexpected, it wasn't necessarily a surprise. Penn State has already landed the services of Iowa kicker Jake Pinegar and will return walk-ons Carson Landis and Nick DeAndgelis.
Pinegar looks to be the most probable to start following the graduation of Davis.
As for Robinson, the junior had nine carries for 55 yards and one touchdown this season and is likely to continue to be down the pecking order, even with the assumed departure of Saquon Barkley to the NFL Draft. Sophomore Miles Sanders was the second team running back behind Barkley, carrying 25 times for 176 yards. Mark Allen, a redshirt junior this year, was the other back to see action for Penn State this year, carrying nine times in five games
The Nittany Lions redshirted freshman Journey Brown this season and four-star back Ricky Slade, the top prospect out of Virginia, is expected to sign in the upcoming recruiting class.
