Penn State kicker Alex Barbir is set to transfer according to a Lions247 report on Tuesday night. The program has granted him his release.
Barbir made appearances in just three games this season, kicking off six times in back-up duty to regular starter Tyler Davis. Two of his six kicks landed out of bounds. At one point Barbir was the No. 11 kicker in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
While Barbir's departure was unexpected, it wasn't necessarily a surprise. Penn State has already landed the services of Iowa kicker Jake Pinegar and will return walk-ons Carson Landis and Nick DeAndgelis.
Pinegar looks to be the most probable to start following the graduation of Davis.
