Penn State basketball got a career night from Tony Carr and its first win of the season as the Nittany Lions took care of Campbell on Friday evening 86-75.

While Campbell made things interesting on a few occasions in the second half, Penn State was never truly threatened as the Nittany Lions got 15 points from Josh Reaves and eight from Lamar Stevens, Julian Moore and Shep Garner along the way.

The Camels (the lone mascot of its type in the NCAA) were led by Chris Clemons and his 39 points outburst. Clemons finished last season with the nation's third highest scoring average and did plenty to start 2017 off on the right foot going 12-of-29 from the field and 13-of-15 from the free throw line.

Penn State led the way for nearly all of the first half, warming up after a slow start offensively. By the break the Nittany Lions led 36-28 behind a solid defensive effort and a much more efficient final 10 minutes of the half.

It was more of the same in the second half, with Penn State leading by as many as 17 before a quick Campbell run cut it to just six with 6:22 to go. Tony Carr took care of the rest in the following minutes going on a solo 7-0 run to open the game back up. Campbell would cut the lead to five with just under a minute to play, but free throws would eventually seal the deal for Penn State.

Overall it was far from a perfect outing for Penn State, that finished the game with 36% shooting and a seven board advantage on the glass. Even so, the game did plenty to showcase the team's depth, potential and skill early in a pivotal season for the program.

The Nittany Lions return to the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday.
