Torsell's Family Faces Suits

Anthony Torsell struck and killed one pedestrian and injured another almost two years ago in downtown State College.  The parents of the deceased man have now filed a wrongful death suit against the driver, his family member, and several friends of the drive.

The deceased, Richard A. Smith, 21, died in October of 2006 after he was struck by Bellefonte native Anthony Torsell.  Aaron Stidd was also hit by Torsell's Buick Skylark at the Beaver Avenue and Atherton Street intersection.  Stidd was 20 at the time of the accident and was critically injured.

Torsell was convicted of vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, and three separate counts of driving under the influence and is serving a more than five to eight year sentence.

According to the Daily Collegian, Smith's parents, Arthur Smith and Ann Marie Brutch, filed a lawsuit against Torsell and some of his family and friends seeking monetary compensation.  According to the Smith's, Torsell's negligence, along with family and friends' negligence resulted in Richard's death.  (Read More)
