Ticketing Information, Other Paterno Memorial Details Announced; Obama Calls Family

The public memorial service planned for Joe Paterno, "A Memorial for Joe," will be a ticketed event, Penn State announced Monday.

It's scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tickets will be free, but they will be limited to two per person. They'll be available starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday via www.gopsusports.com/tickets and via phone ((800)-NITTANY), according to a university announcement. They will not be available via box-office locations.

A live stream of the service will be available on the Big Ten Network, at BTN.com and via BTN2GO, per the announcement. More details are available via the official Penn State news website, Penn State Live.

The news came amid several developments Monday in the wake of Paterno's death Sunday morning at age 85.  The White House announced that President Barack Obama called Paterno's wife, Sue, and son Jay on Monday to share his condolences.

"During their conversation, the president recalled fond memories of when he first met Coach Paterno and said that he and Michelle would keep the Paterno family in their prayers during this difficult time," the White House reported in a prepared statement.

Among other developments Monday:

• Two public viewings for Paterno are scheduled, the university reported. The first is set for 1 to 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, on the University Park campus; the second, from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the same location. A private funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday; it will be followed by a funeral procession about 3 p.m. That will leave the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, turn left onto Curtin Road and follow Curtin Road past Beaver Stadium. From there, it will travel Porter Road to College Avenue, then head west through downtown State College. Burial will be private, according to a Penn State statement.

• The university announced parking and other logistical arrangements for the viewings and for the memorial service. Visitors have several transportation and parking options. All of them are outlined via Penn State Live. University and other local police authorities are planning to collaborate and help manage public logistics surrounding all the events.

• Penn State reiterated the Paterno family has asked that, in lieu of flowers and other gifts, donations be made to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania or the Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.
