Higher Expenses Put Centre County Over Budget

According to the Daily Collegian, Centre County may need to tap into its reserve funds, increase taxes, or cut funding for county-run programs because the county is "substantially over budget" per County Administrator Tim Boyde.

Currently, there is a disconnect between projected expenditure and projected revenues, partially due to the economy.  Also, the increased renewal price for county employees' healthcare benefits will lead to a 10 percent increase in costs.

Interest income will also be less than the $1 million generated in 2007 and the $500,000 to $600,000 generated in 2008.

A draft of the $84 million budget should be available for the public to review next month. ( Read More)
