California Software Programmer Convicted in Wife's Death Leads Cops to Her Body

Tuesday, July 08, 2008

OAKLAND, Calif. —  Police have confirmed that a body that convicted murderer Hans Reiser led them to is, in fact, that of his estranged wife.

A jury already has convicted Reiser of murdering Nina Reiser, who disappeared in 2006 and was last seen at his house.

But until this week, it hasn't been clear what happened to the 31-year-old woman.

On Monday, Reiser led police to remains buried not far from his home in the Oakland hills. Authorities say they were able to identify the body through dental records, jewelry and clothing.

Prosecutor Paul Hora says Reiser's revelation was part of a proposed deal that would reduce his conviction from first- to second-degree murder. That deal still needs to be approved by a judge.
