Penn State Football: Parsons Commitment Closes Chapter On Saga

on December 20, 2017 5:32 PM

Micah Parsons certainly got the most out of his recruiting experience.

He committed, he decommitted, he visited schools, he named his dog Brutus, he tweeted, he had press conferences, he tweeted some more.

And on Wednesday morning he finally finished the saga, committing to Penn State, set to enroll early in the coming weeks, locking him down in Happy Valley.

“You’re going to have to wait for the book," Penn State coach James Franklin said of Parsons' recruitment.  "I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and the book will probably be five chapters on my career and 15 chapters on the ups and downs and the journey of Micah Parsons."

"The commitments, the second guessing, all the people who felt like they had an opinion on what he should and shouldn’t do. We were fortunate we built a strong relationship with mom. We built a very strong relationship with dad by the end of the process, his high school coach and the community."

For both Penn State and Parsons the final chapter is what they both hope will be the best, simply playing football. Getting the five-star soon-to-be-linebacker on campus will do wonders for both parties that are undoubtedly exhausted by a long and drama filled recruiting cycle.

One that might be retold some day down the road.

“I think it helps we have a teammate (Shaquon Anderson-Butts) committed to us that’s doing really well," Franklin added "And I think the fact we’ve been involved with him since he was in ninth grade. That will be interesting. It will be in my memoirs when I’m retired, hopefully on a beach somewhere, writing my memoirs or reciting this to someone else to write the book. He’ll have a number of pages. But obviously being able to keep the best players [in the state] home is very important.”

In the end the world is full of worse things than dramatic football recruiting, but it's safe to say that if Franklin and company can avoid another saga like this, they'll be more than happy to.
