Penn State Basketball: Nittany Lions Thump Iowa 82-58

on February 03, 2018 9:00 PM

For all of the legitimate criticisms that can be sent Penn State basketball's way, Saturday night's 82-58 victory over Iowa was a reminder that at their best, the Nittany Lions are an exceptionally fun bunch to watch.

There was probably no better moment to be reminded of that than the final eights minutes of play. First it was Josh Reaves was a dunk that will likely land him a spot on SportCenter's Top 10 plays list. Then a 360 dunk by Lamar Stevens, then another slam moments later by Stevens again.

Penn State was from start to finish the better team. The Nittany Lions for all of their faults are talented, playing with confidence, and for what has felt like a season of "almost" find themselves in the top half of the Big Ten, thanks in no small part to that same talent on display Saturday night.

In the first half Penn State found both its offensive consistency and defensive strengths en route to a 47-28 halftime lead. It was more of the same in the second half as Iowa never threatened Penn State's lead and the Nittany Lions never faltered.

Tony Carr was efficient with 16 points with Stevens, Josh Reaves and Mike Watkins pouring in 17, 11 and 19 points respectively. The Nittany Lions finished the night with 55-percent shooting while holding the Hawkeyes to 38-percent from the field. Watkins' registered his 500th rebound and his 11th double-double of the season with 10 rebounds on the night.

Penn State sits in sixth in the Big Ten and 16-9 on the year.
