NHL Headed Back At Penn State This Fall

on June 18, 2017 7:53 PM

A year after hosting the Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild, Penn State seems set to play host yet again for another preseason NHL contest at Pegula Ice Arena.

While nearly everything about the event has yet to officially be announced, Penn State athletics sent out multiple social media posts on Sunday asking which NHL teams fans would like to see on campus this Fall. Additionally, NHL specific markings are currently on the recently painted ice surface that was put in place this past week. The markings consist of the trapezoid behind the goal, a rule that neither NCAA men's or women's hockey implements.

It stands to reason that the Sabres would be involved again after a positive experience last season and their connection to owner Terry Pegula, although that has not yet been announced. Beyond that it's an unknown which teams would be involved with the preseason event, the Philadelphia Flyers recently announced their preseason schedule with much of the league set to announce this week.

As far as other potential teams of interest, Penn State has former players affiliated with the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators. The Stanley Cup Champion, Pittsburgh Penguins have also yet to announce their preseason slate.
