Penn State Altoona SIFE heads to regionals
Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Penn State Altoona's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has been selected to participate at a regional competition March 19 in Cleveland. The team will present projects on which they have worked during the 2007-08 school year to a panel of judges who are business leaders from Fortune 500 companies. The event is one of 16 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held in March and April across the United States. Last year, the Penn State Altoona SIFE team won the regional competition in New York and was recognized as one of the top 60 teams at the national competition.

SIFE is a global nonprofit organization active in more than 40 countries. The student teams are lead by faculty members and challenged to develop community outreach projects. These projects are based on SIFE's five educational criteria: success skills, financial literacy, business ethics, entrepreneurship and market economics. The goal of the projects is to combine the skills acquired through educational experiences, the expertise of faculty members, with the support of local businesses and resources from the University to create programs that will promote economic and social growth within the community.
