Some more Blair County homes are getting new addresses.
The U.S. Postal Service will be mailing the changes to about 140 residents in Newry Borough beginning Wednesday. County 911 Center Director Scott Beveridge says some residents in Newry never even had a physical house address. He says that has now changed under the countywide 911 mapping project. Mail will still be delivered to some post office boxes but the home addresses will be used in the case of an emergency response.
L. Robert Kimball, the contractor on the work, kept with the town’s Irish theme in renaming the streets. Fifteen of the town’s street and roadway names have been changed.
Beveridge says the overall project should be halfway done by the end of the year. Contractors will begin work next in Greenfield Township and Martinsburg.
