City Man's Plea Bargain Nets Prison Term

A city man accused of selling heroin has pleaded guilty to four separate cases in exchange for a lighter sentence.

25-year-old Tex Ortiz was arrested last July and has been in Blair County Prison since then awaiting trial. Jury selection was scheduled for January but had been delayed due to questions concerning evidence and arrest procedures.

By pleading out, Ortiz avoids a jury trial which if convicted would have meant substantially longer jail time. As it is he will serve 3-1/2 to seven years for possession with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy, and tampering with evidence.
