NATIONAL S'MORES DAY
Honestly...It's true, we didn't make this up! Come compete in tasty competition involving best tasting Smore, most Unique Smore, Tallest Smore with other special categories to be announced. Watch chocolaty filled movies, drink hot chocolate and enjoy the Lake Raystown Resort at its best!

Arts in August provides three different fine art classes (Drawing and Painting, Digital Photography, and Ceramics) for all skill levels, from ages 16 to adult. Working one on one with professional artists, learners will gain confidence and proficiency within the medium of their choice through creative exploration. Guided group and individual critiques will help learners to strengthen not only their work but also their way of working through artistic problems. A final art show will conclude the program and showcase student work for family and friends to see.

Susan Nicholas Gephart’s Joys of Pein Air workshop welcomes all mediums and skill levels. Her love of the environment is laced through her landscape paintings and shared in her teachings. Join this Award-Winning Artist in an upbeat 1 or 3 day landscape painting workshop. You'll learn how to paint outdoors like Monet and the Impressionists.

WISE Women of Blair County is pleased to announce that they are seeking applications for scholarship assistance. One or more scholarships will be awarded up to a total of $12,000.
Scholarships will be available to Blair County resident females 21 years of age or older who have overcome adversity in their lives and who are pursuing post-secondary education.
WISE Women of Blair County is the successor organization of the Altoona YWCA. WISE stands for Women Involved in Scholarship and Empowerment. The mission of the organization is to empower women and to eliminate racism through collaboration, service, and education. The mission is fulfilled by providing scholarships, awarding grants, and recognizing outstanding women in our community through the annual Tribute dinner.

Mark your calendars for August 9th through 12th, 2012 for the 5th Annual Fisher’s ATV World Reunion to be held again at Rock Run Recreation Area in Patton, Pennsylvania. With so much to see and do, we’ve added one more day to enjoy all of the festivities. You can bet each year will get BIGGER and BETTER with lots more prizes and giveaways! Come out and be a part of the BEST ATV EVENT ON THE EAST COAST!

August 10, 11 and 12, Easter Seals Central Pennsylvania will be holding the 28th Annual Softball Marathon. Easter Seals is currently recruiting teams to play softball in support of local children and adults with disabilities and special needs.

Teams are comprised of 12 – 20 players. Each team is asked to raise a minimum registration fee of $450 for 12 players or $600 for 20 players to play in one 3-hour softball game. Teams can be of any ability level. Teams of families, friends and co-workers are encouraged to register. Games will be played at various baseball and softball fields throughout Blair County.

Registered teams will receive one case of water, one case of Coors Light, and each player will receive a commemorative Softball Marathon t-shirt. Prize packages and trophies will be awarded to the top 3 fundraising teams. Trophies will be given out to the winner of each individual softball game.

Volunteers who are interested in helping during Softball Marathon weekend are also needed.

Softball Marathon raised over $40,000 for Easter Seals Central Pennsylvania in 2011. 99 cents of every dollar raised stays in Central Pennsylvania with 80% spent directly on programs and services.
Easter Seals is the leading non-profit provider of services for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, physical and mental disabilities, and other special needs. Through therapy, education, and support services, Easter Seals provides exceptional services to ensure that all people with disabilities have equal opportunity to live, learn, work, and play.
