STUDIO U at The C. Barton McCann School of Art is a summer program awarding college credit to motivated high school students looking to transition to college level study. The studio program builds confidence and skill level while establishing an artistic foundation for future studies. The essential elements of art and principles of design are central to curriculum as students focus upon strengthening artistic skills and expanding creative capacity within the context of studio practice. This “college experience” is enhanced through residency and extracurricular activities at Juniata College.

WISE Women of Blair County is pleased to announce that they are seeking applications for scholarship assistance. One or more scholarships will be awarded up to a total of $12,000.
Scholarships will be available to Blair County resident females 21 years of age or older who have overcome adversity in their lives and who are pursuing post-secondary education.
WISE Women of Blair County is the successor organization of the Altoona YWCA. WISE stands for Women Involved in Scholarship and Empowerment. The mission of the organization is to empower women and to eliminate racism through collaboration, service, and education. The mission is fulfilled by providing scholarships, awarding grants, and recognizing outstanding women in our community through the annual Tribute dinner.

Batter Up! It’s time to break out your baseball bat and head out to the ballpark! The PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) is bringing its 5th annual Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer home run derby to the Altoona Curve on Wednesday, July 25th.

Teams of four (4) can now sign up on the Home Run Derby website at www.PAHomeRunDerby.org. Participate with a team donation of $500, or sign up as a single batter with a $125 donation. A statewide single-batter winner will be named at the end of the month. Each batter will receive event shirts, a souvenir team photo, a gift bag and fun in the sun! Points will be based on where the ball lands in terms of a hit to infield, hit to outfield, hit to the back wall and home run. Come out and take your swing in the fight against breast cancer!

The Underground Recording Studio is open for business. Bands, solo musicians, vocal recording, mixing and mastering.
